Quick Start Guide

This quick start guide will walk you through performing your first network survey in just a few minutes.

Before you begin, make sure you’ve:

Launch Network Survey from your app drawer. You should see the Dashboard screen with several cards displaying network information.

Before starting a survey, wait for the GPS to acquire a location fix:

  1. Look at the “My Location” card at the top of the dashboard
  2. Wait until you see actual coordinates instead of “Searching for GPS…”
  3. This usually takes 30-60 seconds outdoors

Scroll down to the “File Logging Control” card:

  1. Toggle ON the technologies you want to survey:

    • Cellular: For cell tower data (GSM, LTE, 5G, etc.)
    • Wi-Fi: For Wi-Fi access point data
    • Bluetooth: For Bluetooth devices
    • GNSS: For GPS satellite data
  2. The toggle will turn blue when active

For site surveys and drive tests:

  • Walk, drive, or move around the area you want to survey
  • Network Survey will continuously log data as you move
  • The app works with the screen off (as long as battery optimization is disabled)

For stationary surveys:

  • Stay in one location
  • Network Survey will log data at the configured scan intervals
  • Useful for monitoring signal strength over time

While surveying, you can:

  • View real-time data: Tap any card on the dashboard to see detailed information
  • Check signal strength: Watch cellular RSRP/RSSI values update
  • View nearby networks: See Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth devices as they’re discovered
  • Track GPS accuracy: Monitor location precision in the “My Location” card

When you’re finished surveying:

  1. Return to the Dashboard
  2. Scroll to “File Logging Control”
  3. Toggle OFF the technologies you enabled
  4. Your data has been saved!

GeoPackage files are saved to: Download/NetworkSurveyData

CSV files are saved to: Download/NetworkSurveyData/csv

Transfer files via USB, share using a file manager app, or upload to cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.).

  • GPS Accuracy: Use the FUSED location provider for best battery life, or “ALL” for the most accurate location (Settings → Location Provider) Location Provider.
  • Battery Life: Shorter scan rates consume more battery, especially for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GNSS. GNSS has the highest impact on battery life, so only enable it if needed. Scan Rate Configuration
